Why Should You Take our Use of Force Training Course?
As a licensed security guard, you may have to use force in certain situations — there are, however some restrictions and laws to keep in mind. It may be necessary to use force in an act of self defence for your own protection, but how do you know how much is reasonable?
For example, if you’re being attacked by a person that is significantly smaller than you but they have a weapon and they’re using a considerate amount of force against you, how much force is appropriate to use in response? There is such a thing as using excessive force as a security guard, and situations can become complicated if someone was injured, even if it was unintentional. In general, security guards and bouncers are tasked with keeping their assigned property reasonably safe, and are allowed to use force to carry out their duties, if necessary. However, even small slip-ups when using force can open you up to liability for negligence.
Our Use of Force course will help to clearly define the limits to which security guards are entitled to use force, so that you can stay within the appropriate legal guidelines while carrying out your everyday responsibilities.
Our qualified instructors offer a practical hands-on approach, using a nationally recognized use of force system. This training system has been modified from current police procedures to accommodate the specific training requirements of the Private Security Industry in Canada, and has been recognized by reputable agencies in the security industry. This insured training program will provide certification cards to all students upon completion.
Our one day intensive Use of Force Training and Certification program will cover everything from positional asphyxia to non-compliant cuffing. Here is a full list of the topics that will be covered during the program:
- Use of force legalities
- Passive handcuffing
- Active handcuffing
- Non-compliant cuffing
- Take-down techniques
- Suspect control techniques
- Knife defence
- Blocking techniques
- Defensive tactics
- Proper use of baton
- Ground defence tactics
- Positional asphyxia
While handcuffs are generally associated with police officers, there are situations in security work where you may need to detain someone.
You will learn handcuffing techniques and non-compliant cuffing techniques that follow industry standards and fall within the law. You never want to hurt anyone if you don’t have to, so the techniques you will learn are designed to protect the restrained person as much as possible, while allowing you to protect and defend yourself accordingly.
A baton can be a useful tool for security guards when it comes to protecting yourself, as well as others. There are laws for all tools that are used for security, and batons are no exception — there are regulations as to how and in what cases it can be used. As a security guard, you want to be sure not to misuse any tools that have the potential to cause harm to others. Our instructors will teach you how to properly use batons, and the appropriate situation in which they should be used.
You’ll find that in most cases in which you need to use force, it is in an act of self defence. In our Use of Force program you’ll gain an understanding of what is classified as self defense, and the legalities around it. It’s important to not only learn when and how to defend yourself, but you also want to ensure you’re not crossing any lines. It can be difficult to decipher what’s appropriate and what’s not when it comes to protecting yourself. Fortunately, you’ll learn helpful techniques that will keep you safe, as well as those you’re protecting yourself from when you take our Use of Force course.
It can be a scary and unnerving experience when you see someone being attacked with a knife, and even more so if you’re the one that’s being attacked. When you enroll in our Use of Force program, you’ll learn how to handle situations that involve knives, including how to defend yourself and others against attackers, as well as how to attempt to disarm them. It’s common to encounter dangerous situations when you’re a security guard, and you should be prepared to handle every situation that’s thrown your way — our course can help equip you with the skills you need.
